Better look up, look down, keep looking all around
Behind your back, all over town
They are watching you, everything you do, yes all of you
Monitoring your family too
Gotta stay in line, march in perfect time, turn upon a dime
Every thought a possible crime
Keep it clean, understand what I mean, careful where you've been
Even in the shadows you have been seen
You cannot hide
From their searching eyes
They are everywhere
They patrol your mind
You cannot escape
From their seeking hate
They are everywhere
They watch and they wait
The thought police
Patrolling the streets
The thought police
Watching you and me
The thought police
Patrolling your mind
The thought police
Always one step behind
Do as you're told, the young and old, never be too bold
Recognize what thoughts to hold
When they say jump, don't get up, double think running amok
Don't you ever test your luck
Thoughts are clay, every single day, just do as they say
Save when they mean another way
They are in your head, agents in your bed, know all you've said
Fall in line or you'll end up dead
You cannot hide
From their searching eyes
They are everywhere
They patrol your mind
You cannot escape
From their seeking hate
They are everywhere
They watch and they wait
The thought police
Patrolling the streets
The thought police
Watching you and me
The thought police
Patrolling your mind
The thought police
Always one step behind

Probably still my favorite Dawn Ray'd album (and I have and love them all). The raw passion and drive of A Thorn, A Blight is inspiring. Aggression mixed with pathos. Solidarity with the political messaging. Sheer brilliance all around, including the inclusion of the violin over rough shod black metal. Hayduke X

"A new ritual" appears less aggressive and straight forward than former releases, instead the songs are more varied or maybe progressive although the typical catchiness remains. A fine variation comes with clean background vocals in songs like "Lightless. Hopeless." or "Mourn the Living". I like this direction as it creates atmosphere. Maybe even my favourite release from VOID RITUAL. H.L.

had to pick up the repress!!! this album makes me nostalgic for 8th grade even though it didn't exist yet then and i hadn't discovered it until junior year. it reminds me of sitting on the floor of my cold, drafty bedroom in late autumn and illegally watching anime while bundled up in warm clothes and a blanket. i dunno how u did it but thanks for the memories Astronoid <3 fruitcumber
